While the Trust’s flats are well maintained and are in an attractive neighbourhood, they are converted Victorian houses and present a number of practical difficulties especially for those who develop mobility issues or care and support needs in their later years.
The trustees have therefore decided in principle to sell the properties in Lansdowne Walk and to develop a brand new high quality housing scheme in another location. This will provide much better facilities to enable continued independence for residents for the rest of their lives, with on-site support and care available as and when it is needed. It also means we will be able to help more women in need of housing.
We now have planning permission for a site near Hampton Court, with a view to moving there possibly in 2025. It is a lovely location near the river and with transport links to a range of shopping and leisure areas.
When the move takes place, all residents living in the Trust’s accommodation will be guaranteed a home in the new property. We also expect to offer places to all those on our waiting list. We hope that potential applicants will not be put off by the prospect of moving again. The resulting facilities will only improve our offering and enhance our outstanding record of achievement to date.
